  • Recipients of Prestigious Award at Tsi Snaihne School

    Tsi Snaihne School held its primary year-end awards on Friday, June 15th. One of the most prestigious awards handed out is the Robert Saks Award. This is awarded to the top grade 2 student with the highest overall average. This year the Robert Saks Award was won by Kiyah Francis in the English Program and Rakwirahes Pembleton in the Skahwatsira Program.   • Science on the Wall

    A Science on the Wall competition was held at Tsi Snaihne School on Wednesday, February 29th. Students in grades one and two researched an animal of their choice, then created an informational poster to be displayed on the wall in the hallways of the school. The posters were then judged and winners were selected in each classroom.     The first spirit day at Tsi Snaihne School was “Pajama Day” on September 16, 2011. At Tsi Snaihne School creating a positive school community is part of our school success plan.     On Tuesday, June 14th, the May students of the month enjoyed a pizza party with the principal in the school library. A student of the month is determined in each classroom by the following criteria: 1) attends school on a daily basis; 2) completes all tasks regularly; 3) shows respectful behaviour towards his/her teachers and peers; 4) always puts forth his/her best effort.   • Elderly get a musical visit from 2nd graders

    On January 20, 2009 Ms. Oakes’ grade 2 class from Tsi Snaihne School went to Iakhihsohtha Home for the Elderly to play some musical instruments for the residents.  During Music class and in Social Studies class, the students have been studying different cultures of the world.  The music teacher, Ms. Boots, sang a country song while the children played along.  The children also played a Blues song, a Mexican song, and a Powwow song.  The class is planning another visit in February where they...

    To celebrate Veterans Day/Remembrance Day, Tsi Snaihne School honoured Akwesasne’s veterans by inviting them to a breakfast at the school on November 12th.  They enjoyed a delicious breakfast on Wednesday morning cooked up by Tsi Snaihne’s kitchen staff.     On Friday, October 24th, students from Tsi Snaihne School were busy celebrating fall with their annual Harvest Fair. Various events were taking place throughout the school. Events included traditional dancing, face painting, corn bowling, relay races, autumn bingo, and a fall art project. Students were encouraged to come to school in their finest ‘harvest apparel’.     On Wednesday, October 15th, Tsi Snaihne School was fortunate to have some special visitors. Volunteers from the Hogansburg-Akwesasne Fire Department came to Tsi Snaihne to teach the students some important fire safety techniques.     On Tuesday, September 23rd, Transportation Director Dwayne Thomas and veteran school bus driver Kateri Jacobs came to Tsi Snaihne School to teach some bus safety to the students.  The students were invited onto Kateri’s bus and learned some important rules to follow while riding the bus to and from school.  Mr. Thomas and Mrs. Jacobs also taught the students what to do while waiting for the bus in the morning and leaving the bus at the end of the day.  Important evacuation procedures were al...

    On the morning of Tuesday, June 24th, Tsi Snaihne School held it’s primary graduation and awards ceremony. One award that was handed out was the Robert ‘Saks’ Jacobs Award. This trophy is awarded to the student in grade 2 who obtained the highest overall academic average. Ryan Francis-Forgues won this award with an average of 93%.     Since the snow doesn’t seem to want to go away, Tsi Snaihne School decided to change their annual Spring Festival into a Winter Carnival. On the morning of Friday, March 28th, students were placed into groups and went outside to play games involving the snow, ice and cold weather.
