Two women without previous criminal records were sentenced to prison last week in a Quebec courtroom. Sherry Darling, 22 and Jody Lazore, 23 both of Akwesasne, were arrested in 2006 during the massive drug-ring dismantling called Project Colisee. Darling and Lazore were arrested for their role in a cross-border drug transaction. According to authorities, marijuana was grown in Quebec and then transported to Cornwall. A 15-year-old Akwesasne youth was arrested and charged with Break & Enter, Possession of a Controlled Substance and two counts of Breach of recognizance following an incident in Cornwall on Oct. 23. With flu season just around the corner (November to March), community members lined up at the Hogansburg-Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department’s Station 1 on Tuesday to receive a flu shot. The St. Regis Mohawk Health Services receives a supply of 500 flu vaccines from the New York State Department of Health to distribute freely. Every year, all 500 are given out.
