Thunder Captures Jr Box Lacrosse Championship

 

Akwesasne Thunder, 2023 OLA Junior B Champions.

Going into the final OLA Junior B Championship, the Akwesasne Thunder finished their regular season with a 11-9 record in the far east division. To reach the OLA Junior B Box Lacrosse Championship final played on Monday night, the Thunder swept the Green Gaels 3 to 0 in the first round. Next, they took on the conference-leading and defending champion Nepean Knights with Thunder capturing the conference semifinal 3 to 1.

Their path took them to the Colby Hancock Memorial Trophy series against Orangeville. The Akwesasne Thunder finished the Orangeville Junior B Northmen's season after taking a 5 to 4 loss in game four of their best-of-five series.

On Sunday's game against the Rebels, Takaronhiotakie Thompson reached new heights to avoid the crease.

Heading into the OLA Junior B Box Lacrosse Championship the Six Nations Rebels finished their regular season winning all 20 games to lead the Western Conference. However, the Rebels were no match for the Thunder who on Monday night, put a lock on the OLA Junior B Box Lacrosse Championship winning 6 to 2 over the Rebels. Playing with an unyielding defense and a tight offense, Thunder were in complete ownership of Monday's game.

The Ontario championship's schedule was run almost consecutively within a seven-day span. The winner – Akwesasne Thunder – moves on to represent the league at the Lacrosse Canada Founders Cup, the national Jr. B title. The Founder's Cup is scheduled for Monday, August 14 to Saturday, August 19 in Port Coquitlam, B.C, with the OLA – Junior B Champs – Akwesasne Thunder's first game being played against B.C. on Monday, August. 14.
