Salmon River’s boys and girls varsity basketball seasons came to an end a day apart in Section 10 semifinals.

The Shamrocks boys contingent started off the post-season with a home win over Potsdam in Fort Covington on Tuesday, Feb. 18.

The ‘Rocks rallied late in the game to squeeze by the Sandstoners 47-46. Potsdam started out by gaining a 14-12 advantage, but slipped up in the second quarter. While down 24-16, the Shamrocks rallied to hold a 28-24 lead at the halftime buzzer.

Despite falling behind 39-25 at the end of the third quarter, Salmon River tied the game 39-39 in the fourth quarter and pushed ahead 47-41 with just under two minutes to go. Potsdam managed six more points in the remaining 1:33, but Salmon River’s defense kept them just far enough at bay to take the Section 10 opening playoffs round win.

That led to the Salmon River boys advancing to play against state-ranked Ogdensburg at OFA two nights later.

The Blue Devils got out to a 68-22 lead at halftime and later won 100-45. Tobias Jacobs led the SRC scoresheet with 15 points. Clayton Jones tallied 13-points. Cayden Sunday fashioned eight points. P.J. Ghostlaw, Logan Lebehn, Quinton Carle and Lane Oakes all scored two points. Tyler Huto tallied a free throw.

Jackson Jones sparked the OFA offense with a game-high 28 points. Harry Powers IV, MeSean Johnson and Brogan LaRose each scored 14 points. Connor Griffith and Trent Sargent tallied nine points apiece. Logan Horton, J.D. King and David Vernsey each had three points. Aiden LaFlair scored two free throws. Kam Johnson shot one free throw.

The Salmon River girls were eliminated by Potsdam in a Section 10 playoff bout on Wednesday, Feb. 19. The final score was 46-22.

The Sandstoners got out to a 30-8 halftime lead. The Shamrocks came back in the third quarter, but Potsdam regained control of the contest in the closing stanza.

For the Shamrocks, Watewennenhawihta Goodleaf tallied five points. Kamea Thomas and Mia Leroux scored four points apiece. Lindsay Martin fashioned three points. Meg Martin, Jacobi Mitchell and Kiyahna Thompson finished with two points each.

For the Sandstoners, Luca Pecora led the way with 21 points. Julia Basford scored nine points. Katelyn Davis had a seven-point outing. Sadie Brusso and Sierra Cummings notched two points each.
