Akwesasne Bucks, Snake Island Muskies head to Kahnawake for President's Cup

The Snake Island Muskies defeated the Capital Region Axemen 8-4 in what the Muskies’ social media referred to as a “Pre-President’s Cup” matchup at Anowarakowa Arena on Aug. 19.

The Muskies and the CanAm League’s Akwesasne Bucks are both competing for the President’s Cup in a week of games at Kahnawake Sports Complex.

In the Muskies win over the Axemen, the home team punched in four goals in the first period. Then Joe Hall connected for what would hold up as the game-winner after 3:47 in the middle stanza on a play set up by Garrett Cree and Vaughn Harris. Snake Island went on to hold their opponents scoreless during the second period while adding four other goals. The Axeman outscored them 2-0 in the closing frame.

Hall and Harris led a balanced Muskies offense with two goals and two helpers apiece. Josh Huiatt scored twice with one assist. Quinn Powless had a goal and an assist. Jeff McNulty and Ahta Lazore each netted singletons. Jordan Thomas had a pair of assists. Solo helpers came from Lee Thomas, Cree, Ben Von Every, Akwi David and Casey Swamp.

Axeman goals came off the sticks of J.P. Kedley (one assist), Joe Wisson, Ty Logan and Raj Wasson. Jordan Joncas tallied two helpers. Curtis Singleton, Ty Akins and Tristan Staff contributed solo assists.

The Akwesasne Bucks played their final home game of the season on Aug. 4 at St. Lawrence Sports Complex. They beat the Tuscarora Tomahawks 12-5.

The Bucks quickly took control of the game, outscoring the Tomahawks 4-2 in the first period and 7-2 in the second.

Seth Oakes paced the Akwesasne offense with three goals and six helpers. Skye Sunday scored three goals with two assists. Ty Thompson had five assists. Ky Tarbell scored twice and had two helpers. Russ Oakes scored twice with a solo assist. Orris Edwards scored once and assisted once. Matt Johnson netted a single goal. Solo assists came from Chaunce Hill, Zach Hopps, Johnson Jimerson and Chad George. Sean Verville covered the net.

For Tuscarora, Anthony Patterson scored a goal with two assists. Mo Bissell scored once with a single helper. Elijah Printup helped set up two plays. Kyle Henry, Blade Garrow and George Pineda each netted a singleton. Evan Printup, Kyle Pedwell and Gowah Abrams all had solo helpers.
