Medicine Men finish playoffs and await Founder's Cup; Braves, Muskies wrap up regular season

 


The Three Nations Senior B Lacrosse League regular season has drawn to a close, and playoffs in the First Nations Junior B league have wound down as they approach Founder’s Cup.

In Junior B action, the Bear’s Den Mohawk Medicine Men finished their best-of-three playoff series against the Tyendinaga Thunder, who won it in two games.

The final of the two contests was July 15 at Desoronto Community Center, with the hosts Thunder winning 15-6.

Coach Kariwate Mitchell said he is not concerned with the outcome of the playoff games and is focusing on Founder’s Cup, the league’s capstone tournament.

“Apparently, because we were scheduled to play a last regular season game versus Tyendinaga [July 12], the league decided to commence play-offs as the St. Regis Braves won their final two regular season games, one of which was the Snake Island Muskies’ regular season closer.

Akwesasne’s teams played July 17 at Massena Arena with the Braves winning 10-6. St. Regis scored all the goals they would need in the first 40 minutes, outscoring their opponents 7-3 in the first two stanzas, and then tying 3-all in the closing frame.

For St. Regis, Dalston Day scored two goals and an assist. Kyle Lewis tallied three helpers. Zach Hopps scored twice. Dan Lazore, Geoff McNulty and Jarrett Jacobs each netted a solo goal with an assist. Dwight Bero helped set up two plays. John Jacobs and Sam Bradman each struck for single goals. Trey Adams manned the crease.

On the Muskies side, Skye Sunday notched a hat trick. Jordan Thomas and Justin Oakes each scored one goal with two assists. Casey Swamp scored once. Aweniio David had a solo helper. Kobi Johnson covered the net.

Two nights later, the St. Regis Braves claimed a 29-4 blowout win over the Caughnawaga Indians. They scored all the goals they would need in less then five minutes, outscoring the competition 12-1 over 20 minutes. They kept an 8-1 lead in the second and 9-2 in the third.

For the Braves, Angus Laborgne scored nine goals and four assists. Caleb Wiles struck for four goals with four helpers. Dan Lazore netted a hat trick with three assists. Geoff McNulty scored once and helped set up five plays. Derek Hopps tallied five assists. Don Moss and Sam Bradman each scored three goals with one assist. Dalston Day scored once and assisted three times. Zach Hopps scored twice with one helper. Dwight Bero had a goal and two helpers. Lakota Square tallied two assists. John Jacobs and Daylin Logan netted singletons. Tye Terrance helped set up a single play.

For the Indians, Adam Bomberry scored twice and Hank Delisle set up two plays. Mike Lazore and Blue Hill accounted for the other two goals.
