A group of young girls who want to someday play High School lacrosse are getting a good start. To accomplish this goal they are playing ball in fall lacrosse league tournaments against the best in the state and they need your help to get there.

Last week the Akwesasne Ride held a benefit Chicken Barbecue at the Hogansburg Akwesasne Fire Department. All was sold out.

The Akwesasne Ride program began last year and it consists of three teams: Grade three and four, five and six, and seven and eight.

The Ride competes in the Unity League and their next tournament is at Nazareth College in Rochester next weekend. This is their third year in that league and last year they went undefeated.

Graduation can tear apart a team so the Ride expanded to three teams so the girls can continue playing as they move on.

Coach John Lazore said his daughters Jacelyn and Mirabella did so well in the sport, Lazore said others like them should continue playing. "I want more ladies to experience what they have been through, and all of that started with lacrosse," said Lazore.

He also added he hopes the team can be a "feeder" to High School Varsity.
