CECILIA R. JACOBS

 

AKWESASNE – Mrs. Cecilia R. Jacobs, 90, of 189 Snye Road, quietly passed away in her sleep on Wednesday morning, May 4, 2016 at her home.

Cecilia was born January 24, 1926 on Sugarbush Island, the daughter of the late Paul and Mary Sawatis Lazare. As a young girl, she and her sisters, Suzanne and Anna, were taken from their family and sent to the Spanish Residential School in Spanish, Ontario. They survived, and Cecilia returned home to her family. She married Peter S. Jacobs on February 5, 1941 and lived and worked on the Jacobs family farm on Yellow Island.

Cecilia was a homemaker, who enjoyed crafting, sewing and basketmaking, gardening, playing cards and bingo, and baking. She was a direct selling consultant for Blair, Stanley Home Products, and Avon. She at one time was a member of the St. Regis Mohawk Senior Citizens and was a communicant of St. Regis Catholic Church.

Cecilia is survived by her children, James Dewey Jacobs and Yvonne, Ronnie Jacobs and Lorene Herne; Pauline and Ronald Lazore, and Sheila and Dave Square, all of Akwesasne, Quebec; 19 grandchildren, 54 great grandchildren, and 11 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Suzanne Jackson of Akwesasne, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents, Cecilia was predeceased by her husband, Peter S. Jacobs on July 12, 1993; two children, Mary Jacobs in infancy and William Jacobs on August 26, 1978; a great grandson, Dominic Jacobs; and her siblings, Mike, Archie, Angus, Joe, Charlie, William, Dorothy, Eva, Margaret, and Anna.

Friends called at the home of her daughter, Pauline Lazore, on Sunday and Monday. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Tuesday at St. Regis Catholic Church with Rev. Jerome Pastores officiating. Following cremation, burial will be held privately in St. Lawrence Cemetery.
