Akwesasne Storm Lacrosse Season Opens

The 2016 Akwesasne Storm minor lacrosse season kicked off last Sunday with a full slate of games against the Nepean Knights lacrosse program.

In the first game of the day the Tykes teams battled to an 8-8 tie. Drayson Skidders netted four for the Storm while teammates Talys Tasse-Benedict picked up a hat trick and Traven Seymour rounded off the scoring.

Akwesasne led 8-7 late in the game but the Knights Marcus Kiazyk scored with just two minutes remaining in the third period.

The next game was Novice #1 and Akwesasne blanked Nepean 4-0. Jenson White scored three with Alex Delormier adding one. Kanatiio Lazore, Sonny Cook and Dayne Thomas added assists.

The Peewees were next and team #1 was handed a 12-4 loss. Warren Oakes scored two and Trysen Sunday and Jett Jock scored once.

The Novice #2 teams were tied at seven but Nepean scored with ten seconds left on the clock for the 8-7 shading. Kahontiio Lazore scored six in that win with Wade Adams picking up one.

The Bantam #2 team was defeated 6-4 in their Sunday afternoon game. Kyler Johnson, Ryan Oakes Jr. and Kyran Sunday scored in that loss.

Another game saw Peewee #2 win 5-1. Dullan Thompson, Calvin Cook, Kaide Lazore, Kahiio Terrance and Tehawerakwa Wells all scored in that win.

The final game was the Midgets. They led throughout the contest game and goalie Gage King was working on a shutout. But in the third period a Nepean shot was stopped, but King lost the handle on it and it bounced over the goal line. By then the score was 9-1 and Akwesasne added one final tally late in the game for the 10-1 Midgets win.

Rowisonkies Barnes and Trevan David each scored twice in the win with Nick Tremblay, Isaiah Cree, Montana Pierce, Kobe Cook, Brayden Barilko and Keldren King adding one a piece. Cobie Cree assisted on two.
