Letter to the Editor

Letter to the Editor:

Lloyd William Benedict Jr., “JR” is my grandson whom I’ve had with me from the time he was a little boy.

He is quite knowledgeable of the political system of the whole reservation. He grew up in a Christian household and where political discussion was almost a constant.

JR is a multi-talented individual not only in art and music, but he is also a graduate in the nursing field. This past June 2015, JR also graduated from Potsdam State University with a BA degree in Archeological Studies.

The above is generally his educational background, but there is so much more; he is also a survivor of hard times. One example here is his ability to survive alone on St. Regis Island for approximately three years. He chose to do this in order to challenge himself and to apply what he’s learned in life. I have to ask one question here, how many young individuals do you know today who can do this? I cite this one example to show his character. He is a strong, determined advocate and promoter of a ONE united Akwesasne community. As his grandmother, I would be remiss should I not want to share this gifted person with all.

JR’s unconditional love for his people and community says it all! Please consider voting for him as a District Chief on Cornwall Island on June 27, 2015.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Beatrice A. Lazore
