Akwesasne Mohawk Police Media Release

 


Akwesasne, Quebec. On Friday March 20th, 2015, Ryan John Lazore was extradited from New York State to Canada. On December 30th, 2014, the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service had obtained a Canada-wide Warrant of Arrest for Lazore for the “Second-Degree Murder” of his mother, Lori Sue Lazore. Mr. Lazore was being held in New York State pending an Extradition Hearing for his return to Canada.

The Akwesasne Mohawk Police took custody of Mr. Lazore shortly before 2 p.m. on Friday. He was processed at the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service whereupon he was Remanded into custody until Monday March 23rd, 2015 for his first appearance in Valleyfield Provincial Court.

Chief of Police Jerry Swamp stated “this is an example of the high level of cooperation the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service has with local and International partners in Law Enforcement. This Extradition moved quickly due to the assistance of the Canadian Department of Justice, the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the U.S. Marshall’s office and the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Police Department”.

The Akwesasne Mohawk Police responded on March 22, 2015 to a call regarding a person parked on private property consuming drugs. Upon police arrival the persons in the vehicle was female operator and male passenger whom police identified as Jacob A. Cook. Cook was arrested on an outstanding warrant from Valleyfield Courts. A Search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of drug paraphernalia. The female driver was detained and later released unconditionally.

The Akwesasne Mohawk Police responded on March 22, 2015 to Cherry Street in the Village of Kanatakon for a report of a vehicle that went into the river. Police determined that three youths were inside a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado when it broke through the ice. All three youth got out of the vehicle without injury. The Akwesasne Mohawk Police would like to again “warn the public to refrain from being on any ice at this time due to the unsafe conditions caused by recent change in temperatures”.

The Akwesasne Mohawk Police responded on March 17, 2015 to a call from Seaway International Bridge Corporation Supervisor reporting three cameras from underneath the north span bridge were stolen. The incidents took place on three separate days March 4, 7 and 9th and the video footage obtained of the theft will be sent for forensic enhancement. Investigation is ongoing.
