Another Successful Weekend for the Rapids

Submitted by Johanne Sullivan

The Seaway Valley Rapids Minor Atom traveled to Lindsay over the weekend to take part in the Wolves Cup Classic. The action got under way Friday against the Peterborough Petes Minor Atom AAA team. Looking to reverse a two-game slump, the Rapids started out strong with all of the team's goals coming in the first period. Joshua Esford scored first unassisted, followed by Ethan Montroy on a pass from Braxton D'alessio and Carson Martin; and lastly from Carey Terrance, Jr. from Marco McCarthy. The Petes lone goal came in the third. The Rapids were off to a great start with a 3-1 win. Next, the boys faced the host team, the Central Ontario Wolves AAA Minor Atom team. The boys went on a shooting spree and won 10-2. Terrance got a hat trick and Trysen Sunday, Montroy, McCarthy, Jimmy Sullivan, Jett Jock, Martin and Jonah Ashby each contributed.

On Saturday, the Rapids faced the Wolves again. This time around the team lost 5-3 with Terrance netting two and McCarthy netting one. Next, the boys faced the Petes and were not able to reverse the morning's skid. The Rapids lost a close game 4-3. Montroy got things underway when he scored a short-handed goal. The Petes quickly responded with a power play goal. The game was tied going into the second. The Petes scored early in the second, but Montroy responded on a pass from Esford. Terrance then got a go-ahead goal, but the Petes tied it up again. Going into the third period the score was 3-3 until the Petes sealed it with a late goal.

For the championship game, the Rapids faced the hometown team. The boys were looking to avenge their earlier loss while the Wolves wanted the championship to stay home. The Wolves scored first on a power play, but Terrance tied it up with a wrist shot that went bar down. The score remained tied during a scoreless second period. Terrance got the game winner early in the third period on a power play while Montroy sealed the deal with seven minutes remaining for a final score of 3-1.
