The record snow in Buffalo, NY recently, had first responders from all over the state travelling to assist in the variety of problems the snow caused. The Hogansburg Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department had two volunteers go to help out.

Derek Comins, HAVFD Fire Chief, said firefighters Jody David and Cameron Mitchell departed HAVFD Station 1 on Tuesday at 9:30pm en route to Buffalo. Route 81 was closed due to the storm in the Watertown area, so they travelled to Saranac Lake and south to Albany. Once in Albany they headed west and arrived in the Buffalo area at 7:30 Wednesday morning.

Jody and Cam were stationed at the Depew South fire station with firefighters and equipment from Champlain Fire Department. While in Depew they assisted with wellness checks, evacuations and assisting Depew in anyway they could. Originally they were asked to stay in Depew for 24 hours then return home. Once there, they volunteered to remain longer and returned home at 6:30 Friday evening. HAVFD is proud to have volunteers like Jody and Cam and thankful for their employers allowing them to be away while helping others.
