Seaway Valley Rapids Minor Atom

The puck dropped on the 2014-2015 season on Saturday, September 28th for the Ontario East/Est Minor Hockey League. The Seaway Valley Rapids Minor Atom A faced the Spencerville Kings for its home opener in Maxville. The Rapids skated away with a tie despite the Kings getting an early lead of 2-0 after the first period. During the second period, the Rapids shook off opening day jitters with Trysen Sunday scoring twice with Carey Terrance, Jr. assisting once.

The Minor Atom Rapids team skated again on Sunday against the Gloucester Rangers (Green). The boys were on the hunt for their first win. After being down by 1 in the first period, Marco McCarthy netted one for his first goal of the season assisted by Rylan Adams. Not to be outdone, the Rangers again went up by a point, but the Rapids’s Carson Martin tied it assisted by James Sullivan and Jett Jock. At the end of the first period, the Rapids went up by one when McCarthy scored again assisted by Jacob Anderson. The Rapids never looked back. Terrance scored early in the second period assisted by Sunday and he scored again in the third period on a pass from Anderson. Connor Fox got his first win of the season between the pipes.

After a strong weekend opener with a tie and win, the Seaway Valley Rapids Minor Atom team was looking to extend its hot streak against the Ottawa Silver Seven White team on Wednesday, September 30th. The game remained scoreless at the end of the second period. The Silver Seven struck first early in the third period on a power play goal. During a power play later in the third, Carey Terrance, Jr. scored on a pass from Trysen Sunday to tie it up. During another power play, Terrance got the go-ahead goal in the final few minutes of the game on an assist from Jett Jock. After enjoying a power play, the Rapids suffered a rash of penalties to finish the game. At one point, the Silver Seven had 6 players on the ice to the Rapids’s 3 players. The Silver Seven were not able to convert on the power play. The Rapids went on to win 2-1 with netminder Tristan Shoniker earning his first win of the season. After three games, the Minor Atom A Rapids are first in the Ontario East/Est Minor Hockey League.
