The Salmon River Shamrocks boys varsity soccer team started off the season on the right foot with two league wins under its belt after a home opener win over the Gouverneur Wildcats, 5-1 last Thursday.

The Shamrocks raced out to a 3-0 lead at halftime with Antoine Domino opening up the scoring when he connected off a pass from Dylan Cook 4:22 minutes into the game. Less than minute and a half later, Cook took advantage of a scoring opportunity assisted by Jordan Bigness. Bryton Burns made it 3-0 for the Shamrocks after converting on a penalty kick.

Skkylar Thomas found the back of the net five minutes into the second half with Skylar Mason earning the assist. The Wildcats answered back when Fernando Manrigues scored the only goal for Gouverneur.

With 3:30 minutes left in regulation time, Burns scored his second goal of the game off an assist by Mason.

Zachary Smith stopped two shots while working the crease for the Shamrocks and Bryon Carr turned aside nine shots he faced for the Wildcats.

Girls Soccer

The Lady Shamrocks dropped their home opener in a close back and forth battle with Franklin Academy, 5-3. Mallory Johnson put the Shamrocks on the scoreboard first and then picked up an assist while Morgan Thompson and Victoria Thompson each scored singletons to keep the game close. Abigail Collins netted two goals for the Lady Huskies while teammate Hannah Perry earned four helpers. Gabrielle Collins, Ashley Warner and Katelynn Allen each chipped in one goal apiece. Brooke Monette stopped seven shots backstopping the win for the Lady Huskies. Wraven Sunday turned away eight shots for the Lady Shamrocks.

On Thursday the Lady Shamrocks were home against Potsdam and the Lady Sandstoners left town with a 3-0 shutout. Ali McFadden started off the scoring for Potsdam in the first half with an assist going to Kelsey Green. Green scored the next goal 26 minutes into the second off an assist from Emma Frary. Green then picked up an unassisted goal with 1:06 left in regulation play. Bre Sapp turned away seven shots for Potsdam win while Wraven Sunday had eight saves for the Shamrocks.

Girls Volleyball

The SRCS girl's varsity team has notched two NAC wins of the season on the road. On Monday, September 8, the Lady Shamrocks were in Gouverneur to take on the Lady Wildcats and took a 3-0 sweep (25-14,25-14,25-20). Raven Oakes led the attack with 13 points and seven assists. Jamie Perkins collected nine service points while Tristan Cook-Hasty added six. Mara Lazore and Brittany Brooks handed out four and three kills respectively. Kristen Pickering and Fawn Jacobs each contributed five points to the winning effort.

Two days later the Lady Shamrocks traveled to Edwards Knox and took another 3-0 sweep over the Lady Cougars (25-22,25-4,25-9). Raven Oakes led the way with 20 service points and five assists while teammate Brittany Brooks tallied 20 service points and three kills. Mara Lazore served up nine points for the win.

Girls Swimming

The SRCS girls varsity swim team opened up the season with a 72-21 loss on the road in Red Raider Country last Friday night. "I'm proud of the effort the Shamrocks put forth tonight. The girls have been working hard and I'm anxious to watch them improve this season!" commented Coach Danielle French.
