Salmon River Shocks Canton 4-3 In Overtime

 

Salmon River Shamrocks celebrating their win over the Canton Golden Bears.

Fort Covington - The Salmon River Boys Varsity Hockey Team beat the Canton Golden Bears with a score of 4-3 in overtime.

The game started off quickly with Ryan Thomas scoring first to put Salmon River on board. Golden Bears’ Sean Rodee responded with a goal to tie the game 1-1.

Ronnie Boots scored to give Salmon River the lead, but Nate Gibson chipped in a goal to once again tie the game up. Before the period was over, Ryan Thomas put another past Golden Bears’ goalie Johnny Stone to end the period with a 3-2 lead.

The 3rd period was much of a battle for Salmon River to preserve the 3-2 lead that they had built up. The Golden Bears grasped at every advantage to get a goal and tie up the game and did, with a goal by Sean Rodee, which was the third tie and closed out regulation 3-3.

The 5 minute overtime started of with a series of fast passes by the Golden Bears but Shamrocks’ goalie Cory Garrow wouldn’t let the game slip out of his grasp. With a series of stunning saves, Garrow helped develop an offensive rush led by Shamrocks’ Ty Terrance and Jarid Gray. Going into the offensive zone on a 2 on 1 play, both Terrance and Gray knew what their role was. With Terrance drawing the defenseman, Gray made a cut to catch a pass from Terrance and snipe it top right corner and win the game for the Shamrocks 4-3.

Ryan Thomas led the Shamrocks’ offense with two goals while Ronnie Boots and Jarid Gray both collected one goal. Sean Rodee led the Golden Bears offense with 2 goals while Nate Gibson chipped in the other goal for Canton.
