Massena Wins Over Salmon River 60-44

Fort Covington - It was a bittersweet night for the Salmon River Girls Varsity Basketball Team. It was Senior Night for the team and the last home game they’d play for the Girls Varsity Basketball Team. The Massena Lady Red Raiders defeated the Shamrocks 60-44.

The game started off fast paced with the Lady Red Raiders scoring first. The Shamrocks reacted quickly and collected 2 points for their offense but had a rough defensive start against the Lady Red Raiders. The Lady Red Raiders had a strong 1st quarter on offense putting up 14 points, and a strong defense to keep the Shamrocks to only 9 points.

With the 2nd quarter starting, the Shamrocks’ offense adjusted to the Massena offense and played more conservative and strong defense. Even though the Shamrocks were keeping the Lady Red Raiders out of the paint, they still managed to collect 14 points with Lady Red Raiders’ Alisha Jacobs playing a huge part with her 8 supplied points to end the 1st half 28-23.

The 3rd quarter was primarily dominated by the Massena Lady Red Raiders who put up 21 points, and their defense kept the Shamrocks’ offense to only 6 points. The Lady Red Raiders played tight defense on “SRC All-Time Points Leader” Abby Kelly to keep the Shamrocks’ points low and continued to rack up their own points.

The 4th and final quarter was a better quarter for the Shamrocks both offensively and defensively. The Shamrocks’ offense threw in 15 points while their defense kept Massena to only 11 points.

Alisha Jacobs led all shooters with 20 points, including her five 3-pointers. Marissa Manley supplied 16 points while Steffanie Premo chipped in 10 points for the Massena offense. Taylor Francis led the Shamrocks’ offense with 13 points while Abby Kelly contributed 12 points.
