Kelly’s Two Free Throws Clutch Win For Salmon River 45-42

Fort Covington - The Salmon River Girls Varsity Basketball Team won a local match-up against the Franklin Academy Huskies, 45-42.

The 1st quarter started off quickly with both Franklin Academy and Salmon River going back and forth trying to edge each other out of taking the lead. Salmon River got on the board quickly and led a strong offensive push to keep the lead.

Starting the 2nd quarter, the Huskies started an offensive push of their own with consistent defense and strong offensive plays to end the 1st half with a score of 23-21.

With the start of the 3rd quarter, Salmon River began playing a more consistent offense and defense to keep Franklin Academy from gaining any lead.

With the 4th quarter, the Huskies played tough and put up points, but the Shamrocks’ defense reacted quickly to keep the ball away from Franklin Academy. With the score 43-42, Abby Kelly drew a foul which put her in position for two free throws to seal the fate of Salmon River. With the two free throws, Kelly made both and clinched the win for Salmon River 45-42.  

     Abby Kelly led the Shamrocks’ offense with 13 points while Jaiden Mitchell contributed 9 points for the win. Huskies’ Morgan Fountain led all scorers with 16 points while Jenelle Heden chipped in 10 points for the Huskies’ offense.
