Raiders Battle Back to Defeat OFA

The showdown between rivals Massena and Ogdensburg Boy’s basketball teams last Thursday night turned out to be quite a show as Massena battled from behind to win 60-56.

The game started with each team hitting three point shots. Late in the first quarter two quick three pointers by Troy Myers and Joe LaBelle put Massena ahead 20-12 but Breton LaRose answered back with a three pointer to close the gap to a five point game.

OFA started off the second quarter with two quick three pointers from Matt Piercey and LaRose to put the Devils ahead, 21-20. OFA continued their assault and kept the Raiders to scoring only three points in the second. As the boys headed to the locker room the Devils were leading 30-23.

The Raiders came out in the third quarter ready to work on their inside game and by the fourth quarter they managed to close the deficit 45-44. Massena took the lead heading into the fourth quarter but Ogdensburg would not have it and midway through the quarter rallied to pull ahead 55-50. Massena stepped up their game when Josh Miller made a quick basket and Zack Rusaw followed with two unanswered baskets to give the Raiders the lead once again. With 41 seconds on the clock, Rusaw fired through a three pointer to put the score 58-55. Cosmo closed the score to within two points when he was awarded a free throw with seven seconds left. With three seconds left LaBelle made good on two foul shots to seal the victory for the Raiders.

Rusaw led the Raiders with 13 points and 10 rebounds while Miller contributed 12 points and 5 rebounds. Myers was busy generating 10 points, nine boards, seven assists and three steals. LaBelle fired through with eight points while Zach Hopps added seven points and six assists. Rhoades Tarbell chipped in six points and five rebounds. Xavier Viskovich rounded out the scoring with four points.

Breton LaRose led all scorers with 18 points followed by Cosmo with 10 points, five rebounds and five assists. Piercey and Kinnon LaRose each added a trio of three pointers to contribute nine points each. Ross netted six points while Josh Liebstein added four points.
