Red Raiders quick goals propel them past Potsdam

Senior Luke Bender ensured that the Red Raider Hockey squad would exact some revenge for last year’s Section 10 finals upset by earning a hat trick in the first fourteen minutes of NAC play against the Potsdam Sandstoners.

In front of a large fan based crowd, the Raiders came out fast and furious. Bender scored 3 goals, with 2 from the point, to lead the Raiders to an 8-2 win over the Potsdam at the Massena Arena. Also scoring in the first period were Conner Dix and Ryan Chauvin with assists from Tyler Young.

In the second period Potsdam changed goalies by taking out starter Sam Miller and putting in Devin Crary who held off the Raiders to a scoreless frame.

The Sandstoners came out hard in the third period and scored the first two goals. Robbie Scott scored the first goal on a power play and Trevor Keleher made good on a breakaway to make the score 5-2.

The Raiders answered back with three more goals to claim the victory. Tyler Lashomb hit the back of the net twice while Zach Robert put in an upper corner shot.

Goalie Conner Paquin turned aside 14 shots in the net for the Raiders while Crary made 11 saves for the Sandstoners.

The Raiders have improved their record to 10-2 and 8-0 NAC and have won their 10th straight win. Potsdam stands at 4-5-1 and 0-1-1.
