Haunted Happenings in Akwesasne - Part II

This week we go back to the Phyllis Point case for our conclusion on the evidence gathered. There were a lot of interesting occurrences that happened and audio evidence collected; there were things that even amazed us to find out and how everything lined up with the family history. But before we get too far ahead of ourselves we will do a short lesson in how we classify Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP) and how the science came to be so.

Many attribute the system we use now to Sarah Estep, founder of the American Assoc Of Electronic Voice Phenomena (AA-EVP) in 1982, now called Association Trans Communication. In her book, ‘Voices of Eternity’, is where she wrote:

“It is astounding to receive any communication from another dimension. Even hearing raps, which many people who sit in séance circles have reported, boggles the mind. How much more startling if the unseen can come through with even one word on recording tape! Most messages, I discovered, are faint, whispery voices I call Class C. Headphones must be worn to hear them, and rarely can all the words be interpreted. Class B messages are louder and clearer and can often be heard without headphones. Class A voices are the most gratifying. Loud and clear, they can be duplicated onto other tapes. No headphones are required.”

Another man, Konstantin Raudive wrote about the Class system in his book, ‘Breakthrough’, in 1968:

“The microphone voices fall into three classes of audibility: Class “A” voices can be heard and identified by anyone with normal hearing and knowledge of the language spoken; no special training of the ear is needed to detect them. There are several hundred microphone-voices amongst my recordings that fall into this group. It is easy to make tape copies of “A” voices, and they can be repeated as often as desired. Thus, I have analyzed roughly 25,000 voices according to speech content, language and rhythm. By this method of repetition, the acoustic reality of the voices can be established beyond doubt, and hallucinations of the ear are excluded. Class “B” voices speak more rapidly and more softly, but are still quite plainly audible to a trained and attentive ear. The ability to differentiate increases with practice, but this is a slow and wearisome process. For this reason it is difficult to use non-regular participants for experimental purposes with class “B” voices. Class “C” consists of the most interesting voices; voices that give us a great deal of information and much paranormal data. Unfortunately, these can be heard only in fragments, even by a trained ear, but with improved technical aids, it may eventually become possible to hear and demonstrate these voices, which lie beyond our range of hearing, without trouble. This grading and my comments are but a rough guide in the present stage of our approach to the psycho-acoustic aspect of the investigation.”

Whichever definition was first it is a widely used system today and it is further broken down to help us classify these EVP even better. Whether the EVP is in line with what we are talking to the spirit about or off topic, there are more ways we break things down but I will not bore you with that now. We will provide more background into our sciences used in our next installment, now onto the continued case.

As we stated before our group has no prior knowledge before going in of what is going on within the building and/or property. Only our case manager has that information in her files. Sometimes even we are set back at what the spirits show us or let us feel in connection with a case.

Lana’s Report Continued:

As we had mentioned in our reports last week, Claire and I were in one room and I had a horrid headache and dizziness hit. The feelings I felt were so bad that I had to leave the room and I was lead out by Claire. I had no idea what had happen in the room nor who’s room that had been. Our findings later from the family indicate that the room had been Phyllis’s husband Noah’s room; Noah had passed from a strain of Viral Meningitis shortly after coming home from their winter stay in Florida. Some of his symptoms would be sever headaches and dizziness.

In the basement session where I had heard the, “My Tools!” comment I had been told later that is exactly what Noah would have said.

Claire’s feelings had also been confirmed by the family about the male with a heart condition in the home. One of Phyllis’ son’s had passed with his heart failing him. The young man standing by Phyllis in the living room claiming her as his mother was her son. The fatherly figure Claire had felt was confirmed by family members as being Noah, Phyllis’ late husband.

The movement of objects in the kitchen and the energy that we felt there was all confirmed by the family and Phyllis. After the initial report was provided, one of Phyllis’ daughters had an episode with a cell phone going missing in the kitchen and later finding it in one of the bedrooms. There have been many other things that have been moved in the home over the years and when reading that initial report Phyllis’s reaction was, “See! I told you I wasn’t going senile!”

EVP findings:

Our EVP recordings also confirmed what we were feeling in the home, over and over again. The following are all audio EVP captured on our recorders the night of the investigation. As we did our investigation the things that happened to us during the night were recorded into evidence as well and correlated later to the EVP.

We often found that spirits have a great sense of humor and like to get involved in what we are saying. As we prepared to go into the basement, Claire and I were joking about getting our shoes on. Claire had slip on style shoes whereas I wore a tie up sneakers. Claire said something along the lines of her being smarter than me for having worn the easier to wear shoes; and right after that statement was made we heard in a male voice, “You were!”

As we finishing putting on our shoes and we were ready to go down into the basement there was a male voice saying, “Hi There.” It is always nice to know you’re welcomed into a home.

The first thing in the basement as we are starting to do a walkthrough with Phyllis’ grandson Jeremiah, we catch a voice that says, “Happy”. Happy is the childhood nickname of Phyllis’ grandson who was doing the walkthrough of the basement with us.

Later in the basement before we begin our EVP session I also hear the name “Sue Ann” in male voice, the name has yet to be identified by the family.

At around 9:20pm Claire and I began to setup our equipment and prepare to turn out the lights to conduct our EVP session in the basement. Anything in the basement that may interfere with our audio recording was turned off for the time that we were down there.

Our team always prays before we start, and we did so at that point. Claire and I do our prayers to ask for protection of ourselves, the family and for guidance and knowledge to help the family and those passed over. We also always ask that we be protected from anything following us home. For us this is our standard operating procedure every time we do an investigation.

I was getting the flashlight ready to set down for use as a communication tool, and as I set it down it turned on by itself. As soon as I saw this I picked it up and shut it off on its own and so I started to try and communicate with the spirit down there.

“Ok, now if you want to turn it on, turn it on...” I said out loud and the flashlight turned on right away. “Ok then, can you turn it off…slowly?” The flashlight started to turn off immediately!

Claire was sitting on the stairs and I sat on a chair near her, a few feet away from where we placed the recorder and the flashlight on a box. I felt as though someone was behind me, touching the back of my hair lightly. I asked Claire to take some pictures in my direction and it was interesting that even though the flash worked several of the photos came out black. Claire and I discussed how there was no way in that basement the touch that I felt could be cobwebs, as the basement was too clean.

I saw a shadow move in the corner and I called out, while Claire saw a red flash of light. Again, there was no way any lights were getting into the basement to cause any reflections or light changes.

Claire and I both felt that the spirits were very curious about us being there. Around the same timeframe we caught an EVP in a male voice say, “ Your Turn.”

Were the spirits playing with us and taking turns? Was that the sense of humor again coming through?

Upstairs in the main part of the house in a bedroom both Claire and I see a red light flash by us at different times as we sat on the bed doing our EVP session. At one point during the session I was looking toward the recorder, which was set on a dresser approximately 3-feet away from me and I saw the red light black out twice as though someone had walked in front of the recorder.

Near that time on the recorder we can hear a male voice saying, “Noah”. Just then Claire saw the red light flash again and then I saw it near the door and the trash can. A few minutes later I felt a very deep chill next to me on my right side and on the floor. The area around me was had a 75-degree ambient temperature and that dropped to 69-degree ambient in those areas. I had a feeling like someone had put both hands on my back.

As I was saying how cold I was just then on our recording we caught a male voice saying, “Hey Lana, Hey Lana.”

Claire again saw the red light flash by and as we prepared to end our EVP session in this room and I said, “end EVP”, there was a male voice caught right after saying, “Hey!”

As we entered the next room Claire and I both felt cold chills in this room. We caught a couple of good shots of energy orbs (see pictures), but not much else happened and as we went to leave and end our EVP session in this room we caught more activity. As I was ending our audio session I said, “I think we are done here, time to move on.” We hear in a soft voice, “Ya, I think so…” There is that sense of humor again – we had to love it.

We moved onto the last bedroom in the home, the master bedroom where I had such a hard time with headaches and dizziness the first time around. The second time I was in the room I was better for a while. When we settled in to do the EVP session I set our K2 meter down on the bed. The K2 meter is like a Mel Meter and is used to measure electromagnetic fields (EMF) occurring in an area, we will have more information on that next week.

As I sat down I noticed the K2 meter flashed up to 10 plus on the EMF for no reason. I asked, “Can you do that again?” – but nothing happened. Claire again saw our little friend the red light make an appearance in the room. The cameras were both acting up again and the batteries were now drained. My headache and dizziness really started to come back full after about five minutes in the room, so it was time to leave that room.

We moved on into the kitchen and our little friend, the red light, has come around to see us again in here and made an entrance and then left. Claire says that she could pick up a lot of whispering in the there, though nothing is heard on the audio. We both can sense all of the happy times and excitement that has taken place in this kitchen.

We decided that it was time to wrap up for the night and head home to leave the family and their spirit family alone to rest. It had been a full and busy night for all of us. As we prepare to shut down the recorder the spirit had one last comment for us, we caught a male voice making a statement that meant a lot, “Happy Now.”

Our simple conclusion on this case is that this is an intelligent haunting. There is nothing threatening in any way in this home. We feel it is all family in this home, all have passed over and are just coming back to watch over Phyllis and her family on this side from the other side.

At the same time this is way more then just an “intelligent haunting” that is happening in this home. This is family, watching over family – caring, respecting, loving as they always did, and with a great sense of humor. The same sense of pride in their family, their home and their heritage that they had before they passed, still carries on over on the other side.
