Grotto built at St. Regis Catholic Church

A grotto was recently built at the site of the St. Regis Catholic Church.

The completion of a beautiful “grotto” took only two weeks to finish as Dave George worked a few hours each day on it.  The skill of this man shows in the result of a structure that is more popular in the South and is seen amongst many religious communities as a protection for sacred statues.

Dave saw the statue standing on a stone in front of the church in the village of Kanatakon.  He began his research on the internet and looked at various styles of grottos.  This would be perfect to go with that statue, he thought. With the permission of the Pastor Fr. Belgarde, Dave began his work.  This is the type of skill that Dave is most known for in this community.

The materials used was given on a trade for walleyed pike from Dave and a man from Brasher Falls for the stone. All of Mr. George’s  time was donated while he constructed this beautiful grotto that now shelters and protects the Blessed Virgin Mary.

He said he would like to dedicate his finished work to his wife Martha.

For anyone passing by the church in the village, be sure to check out Dave’s beautiful creation.
