Salmon River Athlete Students for March, April, May 2010

It was another successful year for some of the sport teams at Salmon River.  The athletes that have shown high performance within their sports and were chosen by their coaches and given recognition.  For receiving this honor, the athletes will be given a certificate from the Salmon River Hall of Fame and a $25.00 gift certificate from the Akwesasne Jreck Sub.  Each month, a male and a female are chosen and photographed.  These photos will be displayed at Akwesasne Jreck Sub on the wall.

Alicia Thomas was selected by her softball coach Sheila Mannix during the 2010 season for the month of March.  By the end of a near perfect season, Alicia earned 15 RBIs, 8 triples and one homerun.  Alicia led Section 10 in hitting triples.  Her batting average is .606. Congratulations Alicia and continue your success at College.

The male chosen for March 2010 was Nick Fluery.  He was selected by his coach Ben Barkley for the sport of baseball where Nick is a Junior pitcher.  He currently leads the league in strike outs at 27.  His pitching efficiency allowed his team to be contenders in every game.  Nick’s batting average was .364 along with 9 RBIs. As a chosen Captain, he should be leading his team again next baseball season.

For the month of April, the male selection was Dalston Day. During the month of April, Dalston piled up 23 goals and 13 assists for a total of 36 points.  His name was said so many times toward the end of the season and especially in the playoffs. In the contest against Massena, Dalston exploded with 8 goals and 1 assist.  His coach Jim Barnes said Dalston has been consistent all season as an offensive player.

Kasennakohe David was also picked by her golfing coach John Lepage .  She was chosen for the month of April as the athlete student for shooting a 53 in only her first match.

Krista Oakes represents May’s Athlete Student in her sport of softball as a pitcher.  She has been very impressive on the mound with her ladies behind her.  In 10 games, Krista struck out her opponents 127 times.  She had pitched two perfect games against Chateaugay and Parishville.  Her batting average is .500 while she hit 17 times out of 34.  Throughout the season she hit two doubles and 1 homerun.  Best of luck to Krista as she continues her pitching career at College.

The May athlete for Salmon River was James Whitehead after his very successful track performance during his sport season.  Recently, he placed first in the 400m dash with a time of 54.9 and fourth in the long jump as he jumped 16’ 4.5” against Madrid Waddington and Canton.  James was also the fastest leg of two winning relay teams ( 4x800m and 4x400 ).
