Two men arrested in separate sexual assaults

The Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service said that two individuals were taken into custody recently and both charged with committing sexual offenses in the past.

In January of this year, the AMPS interviewed an Akwesasronon youth who was allegedly the victim of numerous historical sexual assaults. The assaults occurred in several locations in the territory of Akwesasne.

Upon investigation, a warrant for the arrest of a male subject was granted. The accused was arrested by the AMPS on February 10th, 2010 and held in custody for a bail hearing on February 16th, 2010. The subject was granted bail and released on conditions. He cannot be named since it may identify the victim. This individual is charged with the following offences: 2 counts of Uttering Threats, Sexual Assault, Sexual Exploitation, Sexual Interference, and Invitation to Sexual Touching, all contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

In a separate case, the AMPS was contacted in 2009 by an alleged victim of a historical sexual assault that occurred in Tsi Snaihne (Snye). Police investigated the matter and on March 8th, 2010, the accused voluntarily surrendered to police. The subject was arrested and released on conditions for a first appearance in Valleyfield Provincial Court. He has been charged with Sexual Exploitation and Making of Child Pornography. The name of the accused has not been released since it may identify the victim of this incident.
