A tragic 3 a.m. accident on the back roads between Fort Covington and Akwesasne this weekend ended in the deaths of two Akwesasne men. According to the New York State Police, Mark P. On March 12, 2010 the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service executed a search warrant under the Controlled Drug and Substances Act at a Tsi Snaihne (Snye) residence believed to be used in the trafficking of cocaine and marijuana. Two individuals were arrested as a result of the search, which took place on Phillips Road. Items seized from the residence were cocaine, marijuana, a pistol grip shotgun and approximately $600. The Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service said that two individuals were taken into custody recently and both charged with committing sexual offenses in the past. In January of this year, the AMPS interviewed an Akwesasronon youth who was allegedly the victim of numerous historical sexual assaults. On March 19 and 20, several committed community members met at the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Community Building for a series of training classes for certification in CPR/AED.
