A Voice from the Eastern Door

The Massena Silver and Black open their football season

There were many spectators in attendance to watch a new level of football for the Massena and surrounding areas. The defending national semi pro football champion Vermont played against the Silver and Black and were victorious with a score of 62-0. This is only the start of the season and we should see some improvement from these talented players.

On the offensive end, Dave Currier went 9x22 for 21 yards passing and one carry for a yard. Buddy Compeau caught 5 passes for 12 yards and ran 5 times for another five. Anthony Clary ran for 24 yards on eight carries. James Love caught four passes for nine yards.

For the defensive moves, Jeremy Thompson had 7 tackles and Lan Lamondie ran six tackles. Rob Sunday collected 5 and a sack along with Compeau and James Morin who each posted 3.

Chris Morin, who is a major organizer of this league and also is a coach, suited up for the second half of the game. In his earlier days of football he was said to be “uncatchable”.

The Silver and Black will be in Ottawa on Saturday to play their first road game in the Empire Football League. The players from Akwesasne are David Benedict, Jeremy Thompson, Joe Lazore, Richard Lazore, Ryan McDonald, Frank Laughing and Robert Sunday.

The Schedule is:

July 19 at Ottawa

July 26 at Plattsburg
