Carey Terrance wins independence 30 at Mohawk International Raceway

Carey Terrance of Akwesasne is on a mission in a DIRTcar 358 Modified in 2008 to be the best he can be behind the wheel of a race car and in hopes of taking a track championship along the way, as he picked up the second jewel of the CKON-FM / Mohawk International Raceway Triple Crown series with a big win in the Coca-Cola sponsored Independence 30 for the Coors Light DIRTcar 358 Modifieds.

Perry Francis and invader Mark Smoke started in the front row of the event with Perry Francis getting the early lead followed closely by Carey Terrance, Mitchell Jock, Smoke and John Lazore.  In lap #2, Terrance made a slick move to get by early leader Francis for the lead with Francis now second, Mitchell Jock third, Mark Smoke fourth and John Lazore fifth.  On lap #9, John Lazore made his move to get around Jock and Francis and began to set his sites on Terrance for the top spot.  With each passing lap, Lazore seemed to be closing in on Terrance as the fans were in anticipation and grew ever more excited about a great two car battle that was about to unfold. Lazore stayed close but not even a couple of cautions in the closing stages of the race could give him the edge he needed to get around Terrance for the top spot.  On the final lap, John made a last ditch effort to get by but came up short as Terrance came home the victor making his second appearance in the Mohawk Bingo Palace Victory Lane in a row.  John Lazore settled for second with Mitchell Jock, Jeff Sykes and Perry Francis rounding out the top five.

In the Action Race Parts UMP/DIRT Pro Stocks, it was Ricky Thompson crossing the line first but it was second place finisher Allen Peters taking the trip to the Mohawk Bingo Palace Victory Lane.

Billy Woodward, Jr. and Thompson started on the front row with Thompson grabbing the early lead.  Stephane Lebrun who started fourth on the grid quickly moved into second and began to mount a serious charge on the leader only to have it all be for nothing.  As Lebrun came out of turn four on lap #10, something broke on the car sending Lebrun to the inside part of the race track on the front stretch.  This moved Allen Peters into second.  Peters who started in the second row on the grid seemed to slip back into the pack but than began a charge back up through again that put him right behind Lebrun and Thompson.  Peters tried everything he could to get by but Ricky was too tough and picked up the win.

In a post race inspection, officials determined that there was an infraction concerning the rev-limiter on Thompson’s car prompting a disqualification moving Peters to the #1 spot.  Billy Woodward, Jr. who drove an outstanding race finished second with Travis Back and David Papineau rounding out the top five.

In the Pecore Performance and Transmissions Semi Pros, a bizarre ending and a horrifying crash added both drama and astonishment to the event.

Jay Montour grabbed the early lead in the event and was followed closely by Harvey Arquette, Jr., Stuart Mossow, Mike Allen and Kevin Fetterly, Jr.  On lap #9, Arquette finally got by Montour for the top spot.  The two battled fiercely for the next five laps until lap #14 of the 15 lap event when the two cars came together between turns three and four sending Arquette’s car high into the air and then flipping violently into turn #4.  Arquette emerged ok after one of the most violent flips in speedway history.  Officials took a look at the situation and decided to disqualify the #33 of Montour.

This moved Mike Allen, who was running third at the time, into the top spot and Mike continued on for the win.  Stuart Mossow finished second with Kevin Fetterly, Jr., Ryan Phillips and Kevin Clement rounding out the top five.

In the Helm’s Salvage and Trucking Bandits, Joey Foster was able to hold of a late race charge by Claudia Tarbell for the Victory.  Foster who took the lead on lap #2 of the event held off an early race challenge from Cole Cree and then within the last few laps was able to get to the finish line first before Claudia Tarbell could mount a serious charge for the top spot.  Tarbell settled for second with Eli Gilbert, Fred Weaver and C J Lavair rounding out the top five.

In the Bash Brothers Enduro, Kevin Thompson once again made a stop at the Mohawk Bingo Palace Victory Lane after holding off Todd Marlow for the victory.
