Boys hockey team splits

The Salmon River Boys Shamrocks traveled to the Utica area this past weekend to play Clinton and Whitesboro in boys’ hockey.

The team dropped the first game 5–2 against the always tough Clinton Warriors. Cody Bingham and Skaron Mayo scored for Salmon with assists going to Tehawerahkwatha Herne, Ty Thompson, Bo Adams and Marc Plante. Sonny Lightning and Jake Lazore combined for 35 saves.

The Rocks faired better Saturday afternoon against Whitesboro, coming away with a 4-3 win. Marc Plante had 2 goals while Ty Thompson and Chris Lewis each added one for the win. Setup men included Lewis, Thompson, Mayo, Herne and Adams.

After their game the boys had the opportunity to travel to Ithaca and watch Ted Cook and the Niagara University Purple Eagles play Cornell in an NCAA Division I game. Niagara gave Cornell all they could handle in a 4-3 loss for the Purple Eagles. Ted Cook picked up an assist on the game tying goal in the third period only to have Cornell score the winner with three minutes remaining the third period.
