  • Investigation Cendrier: Several arrests for trafficking illegal tobacco

    RCMP officers from the Valleyfield Detachment issued arrest warrants for several individuals as part of Project Cendrier on December 12, 2017. A total of 16 individuals from Quebec, Ontario and the United States were targeted by Tuesday’s operation. This strike dismantles a contraband tobacco network which operated primarily from the Akwesasne territory in New York State to the Kahnawake territory in Montérégie, via the Saint-François Lake waterway.     This past Friday December 8th, 2017 the Akwesasne Holiday helpers and sponsors hosted their annual jail and bail, $20,000 raffle and Mohawk auction. Community members were able to sign up for a Christmas basket before the sign-ups were closed at 4 pm the same day. The event had a great turnout, with many coming to eat and try their luck at winning a prize from the Mohawk auction.     The Akwesasne Cultural Center held their first 'Make a Craft Fair' this past Thursday, December 7th from 1pm to 4 pm and 6 pm to 8 pm.
