    John Thomas, a member of the Akwesasne community, was commissioned by the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne and OPG to paint a mural at the OPG Visitors Centre in Cornwall, Ontario. They wanted something to be created that illustrated the St. Lawrence River before the dam was built. His mural has images of the early Native American people hunting and fishing, and also demonstrates three different sections of longhouses to represent three of the different clans.     The Elders Benefit committee has been meeting for years now to discuss a possible elder’s monthly allowance. This allowance would be given to community members within a 15-mile radius who are over the age of 62. The amount would be around $200 a month (given in a form subject to debate), that elders could use to aid in their day-to-day expenses.
