    The 24th annual Akwesasne Winter Carnival hosted by the Akwesasne Coalition for Community Empowerment was held over this weekend with Opening Ceremonies kicking things off at Iakhihsohtha on Thursday February 12, 2015. Events were held mainly at the St. Regis Mohawk School, Generations Park and the Seniors Center.     On Saturday morning at the St. Regis Mohawk School a group braved the cold and knee-deep snow for a benefit kickball tournament for the SRC Mohawk Club. They are raising money for students to take a trip to the Sante Fe Indian School for a cultural exchange. Katsitsionni Fox said five students are going in April, and after they return, five students from Sante Fe will come here.     On Saturday, Valentine's Day, the St. Regis Mission Church Fund Raising Committee held a Rose Sale at Saint Kateri hall. They sold 50 dozen roses and certainly picked the perfect item to sell on the perfect day. "We had a sign out by the road and people just stopped," said Minerva White.     On Friday night, the St. Regis Mohawk School had a variety of activities for Winter Carnival goers. In the multipurpose room, the Walking With Our Sisters Fundraising Committee served a spaghetti dinner to benefit the installation that's coming to Akwesasne in November 2015. In the lobby, the Akwesasne Family Wellness Program had a booth packed with information and a game for which contestants got a chance to win some great giveaways.     You could hear a pin drop in the cafeteria of the St. Regis Mohawk School for the puzzle contest on Saturday, a stark contrast to the gym where Belly Buttons the Clown was putting on a Magic Show.     On Saturday the Seniors Center had something for everyone at the Akwesasne Winter Carnival. The Native North American Travelling College hosted a Corn Soup and Fry Bread Cook-off.
