    The Akwesasne Community Support Program under Mohawk Council of Akwesasne recently hired participants to undergo a local “Labour Marketing Information Project.” The project lasted one month in June of 2013, and was designed to take a look at what the local job market entailed. The winners of the tournament are: 1st place women’s is Brenda, 2nd place is Corrine Johnson (no photo). For Men’s: 1st place is Billy Arquette and 2nd place is Andy Menke.     A pool tournament was held September 1, 2012 at the Brasshorse Lounge to raise funds for the American Cue Sports Alliance (ACS) Akwesasne pool league. There were men’s, women’s and scotch doubles tournaments held, as well as raffles. The tournament winners for the Men were: 1st place Cody David and 2nd place to Steve Smoke.   • Mohawk Chicks win National 8-Ball Championship

    The Mohawk Chicks, Mel Herne, Steph Smoke, Kelly Cook and Corrine Johnson, won the B division of the Canadian 8-ball Championships in Toronto on April 22-23, 2011. They played the first match against “We don’t know yet” and won 9-4. Next up was “Felt-on-Table”, the Mohawk Chicks won 9-5. They defeated “T&A” 9-5, and then “Da Gurls” 9-4.     Last year you might remember that the Mohawk Chicks finished in 2nd place in the B division at the Canadian Cuesports Alliance Nationals, Canadian 8-Ball Championships.     The Mohawk Billiards ACS 8-ball League had their banquet Saturday at the All Inn lounge. The league has helped 30 players qualify for nationals in Las Vegas and Toronto. Trophies & and cash prizes were given out for all of the teams and for individual awards.     A group ranging in size from 7 to 15 has been learning the basics of the game of pool/billiards at the Snye Recreation. “It seems like the kids in Snye really like pool,” said Corrine Johnson, who has been teaching the class with Ryan Hill.
