Akwesasne Animal Society Provides Food to 60 Pet Owners

On Saturday, January 7, 2023, the Akwesasne Animal Society (AAS) sponsored their first Paws Pet Food Pantry of the year for Akwesasne community members who are struggling to make ends meet, including seniors, those who are low income, on disability, or unemployed. Over 60 pet owners received bags of dog or cat food or both. Niawenhkó:wa to Jennifer Herne, Derrick King, Hontsi Horn, and Lyn Thomas, who volunteered in frigid temperatures to pick up and distribute the food that the OSPCA and various businesses across Ontario had generously donated. The Animal Society was pleased with the turnout and felt their hard work was well worth the effort. Pet food giveaways will occur on the 3rd Saturday of every month at 1 pm near Generations Park.

The next scheduled Paws Pet Food Pantry will be on February 18. In addition to dog and cat food, blankets, dishes, treats, and pet toys will be available courtesy of Boehringer-Ingelheim Greater Good Charities.
