The community of Akwesasne has shown their love and gratitude for Bruce Bombard, a longtime employee of Donaldson's Funeral Home. Escorted by the Tribal Police and the Hogansburg Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department, Bruce has moved in with his brother as his place to end his path and to start a new journey.

On Thursday, Sept 29, cars lined up to thank Bruce for all he has done and all he has given to Akwesasne community members during their deepest depts of grief – immediately after losing a loved one.

Emmy Lazore, an organizer of the drive by contacted local police and fire department and they were quick to answer and provided an escort. She arranged singers to uplift his spirts; traditional songs and Mohawk Choir members singing the Our Father in Kanieńkehá. A thank you card was there for community members to sign, and many brought their own cards and gifts for Bruce.

Tribal Sub Chiefs Derrick King and Agnes Sweets Jacobs presented a certificate of recognition and a sweetgrass basket on behalf of the Tribe.

For sixty-three years Bruce provided support to Akwesasronon and often called Akwesasne and the Homemaker's his second home. He respected and loved our traditions – and our food. Bruce and Donaldsons' crew have developed a respectful and supportive rapport within our community. Bruce often said he wanted to join the Death Benefits Group, but he was told that he would have to marry in.

Emmy said, "Bruce has been a big part of the community and has done extra to help families feel welcomed and loved. He was so thankful for today. Akwesasne is so awesome when it comes to supporting people in all areas. Once again – Niawen:kowa for all who came and offered support."

"A Huge Thank You"

"I just want to let the community of Akwesasne know how overwhelmed I was on Thursday, September 29th when they organized a car drive by and motored to my brothers' home. It was a beautiful program. It was so nice to see so many of my beloved friends. The music, prayers, and such, I'll never forget. The certificate, flag, homemade pies, sweet grass and basket are all so beautiful. Again, many, many thanks to those who organized the event and to the Akwesasne Tribal police and HAVFD for the escort. Love and prayers to all," Bruce P. Bombard.
