Indian Time - A Voice from the Eastern Door

The Powwow committee is grateful to have hosted many people at the 2019 Annual Akwesasne International Powwow. This includes our 303 registered dancers, 47 tiny tots, 7 drum groups, 11 traditional food vendors and 50+artisan craft vendors. The furthest guest we know of, who planned their vacation to be with us, arrived from France.

One of our goals is to share our cultural event with all the beautiful people of Turtle Island. We talked with many first-time powwow visitors who say they will return and therefore will be greeted as powwow friends and family.

We were honored to have been part of the release of a rehabilitated immature bald eagle at Sunday Grand Entry. This majestic bird holds a sacred place in the hearts of the Onkwehonwe (Original Beings) people. Special thank you to the Adirondack Wildlife Refuge and others for letting us receive good energy from this. Aho

Our student volunteers worked nonstop to keep our grounds litter free and assisted in many areas throughout the weekend. Niawenko:wa!
