By Kaniehtonkie

The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe presented the results of the 2018 Residency Survey and elements of a Draft Residency Ordinance on Wednesday October 24th at 5:00 p.m. in the Community Building lobby. The attendance was minimal, but comments and remarks at the meeting were of a positive and constructive nature.

Dr. J. Patrick Turbett, Director of the Potsdam Institute for Applied Research presented their approach, methodology and results of the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe Residency Law/Permit Survey.

The survey was presented to Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe members in the form a questionnaire consisting of twenty-three questions which was mailed out to 13,642 individuals and households. 1,204 surveys were returned, 975 by mail and 229 online. It was noted the return rate was not unusually high nor low.

Dr. Turbett thoroughly explained the results of the survey and Director of Communications Brandan White, along with SRMT Counsel Dale White explained the process of continuing to meet with community members, garner and compile all information from past residency meetings to ultimately develop a DRAFT residency ordinance.

It was stated, ‘We are not in a rush, we want to take our time and do this right’.
