Niawen

May 29, 2018

The family of Frank “Mout” Kahentiio Leaf would like to say niawen to the community for their support and kind words following his unexpected passing into the spirit world.

His family wishes to acknowledge the Akwesasne Mohawk Ambulance Service, the Hogansburg Akwesasne Fire Department and the Ottawa General Hospital, Intensive Care Unit. Frank was given the highest quality of care and compassion from these professionals. We are especially grateful.

It was obvious that Frank was loved by many. It did not go unnoticed how quickly our community came together to support and help us during our difficult and sad time. Within hours, the Boots Family was setting up tents, the Delormier Family had delivered a disposal bin and friends and family came together to prepare Frank’s home for his wake. We would also like to acknowledge Dee Dee Back for making Frank’s Ribbon shirt; using his favourite colour she sewed each stitch with love. We are appreciative for these donations and acts of kindness.

The outpouring of love continued with donations of delicious food, wood, monetary contributions, and many helping hands as well as financial support from the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne – Social Development.

A special mention of Donaldson’s Funeral Home for ensuring that Frank was, as he proudly proclaimed, “the youngest of the whole Leaf Family, and the prettiest and the ruggedly most handsome-est.”

The most touching and moving of words were spoken by Richard Mitchell, Eddie Gray and Emmy Mitchell. Your words to Kahentiio were touching and much comfort was felt in our hearts and minds.

You could taste that the funeral meal was made with love, thank you to the amazing cooks and helpers who set up the Kawehno:ke Recreation Centre.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to all of the nieces, nephews, family and friends who helped us celebrate Frank’s life and for his spirit to begin its journey into the spirit world.

Much love and appreciation,

The Family of Frank “Mout” Kahentiio Leaf
