PUBLIC NOTICE

 


In order for the Akwesasne Membership Board to determine if an application for Akwesasne Membership will be approved or denied, the Board must consider the following criteria:

a) Whether the applicant was born in the community

b) Commitment to Mohawk culture, traditions, lifestyle, and knowledge of language and customs

c) Individual or family ties to Members of the community

d) Member of a Clan

e) Degree of involvement in the affairs of the community

f) Reasons for wanting to be a member

This criteria is in Section 11 of the Akwesasne Membership Code. The following persons have applied for Membership under the Akwesasne Membership Code.

Lennyx and Davanna Square, age 5, Reese Square, age 16, and Conner Square, age 14, children of Calvin Square (Akwesasne) and Bobbi Bowman (Akwesasne).

David Diagostino, age 53, son of Patricia (Smoke) Diagostino (Akwesasne) and Robert Diagostino, a non-Indian. David Diagostino is also applying for a Residency Permit under the Akwesasne Residency Law.

Regina Pierce, age 52, was approved for Probationary Membership by the Akwesasne Membership Board on October 13, 2012. The Membership Board is now going to consider whether she has successfully completed her five year probationary period and grant her full Akwesasne Membership.

Scottie Ryan Hill, age 42, (Six Nations) is applying to renew his Residency Permit.

Margie Marquis, age 58, (Kahnawake) is applying for a Residency Permit under the Akwesasne Residency Law.

Community members have until Friday, November 10, 2017 to indicate whether they wish to make submissions regarding any of the above individuals by contacting the Office of Vital Statistics.

At the Akwesasne Membership Board meeting of October 14, 2017, the Membership Board approved full Akwesasne Membership to Caleb and Addison Henry, and Noelani and Isabelle Wilson. The Board approved Probationary Membership for Devlin Laughing and cancelled the Membership application of Victoria Diagostino.

Community members wishing to appeal the Membership Board’s decision on any of the above have 30 days to appeal to the Council of Elders by contacting the Office of Vital Statistics at (613) 575-2250 ext. 1011, located at the Cornwall Island Administration Building #3.
