A Voice from the Eastern Door

St. Regis Rec & Village Currency Host Akwesasne's "Halloween in the Village"

The St. Regis Recreation Committee and Village Currency are proud once again to host Akwesasne’s Halloween in the Village! On Halloween night, Oct. 31st, from 4-7pm, join hundreds of other Akwesasronon as we take over the village for an evening of fun, fear, food and fantastic prizes!

Instead of the previous “Golden Ticket” hunt, this year trick-or-treaters will be encouraged to “pick a lollipop” for a chance to win an age-appropriate prize! Stop by the Village Currency, our partner in hosting Halloween, and try your luck at a special prize!

Along with prizes, there will be lots of other fun to enjoy! Phillip & Mary Gray will be judging for “Best Decorated Wagon/Trailer”, and the St. Regis Recreation will be judging for Best Decorated House, and ALL Akwesasne houses are eligible to take part! Simply register your house by calling the recreation at 575-2700.

In order for us all to enjoy Akwesasne’s Halloween in the Village, please keep the following tips in mind:

• Traffic pattern will be one way, signs will be posted.

• The village will be crowded. Consider parking your vehicle and walking or using a wagon or trailer.

• Some areas of the village are not brightly lit. Please make sure trick-or-treaters are visible with reflectors, glow sticks or bright clothing.

• There will be MANY trick-or-treaters and the numbers increase each year. We invite community members from all over Akwesasne to help hand out candy in the village. Several families can join together or find a friend or family member to donate your candy to and help them answer the door to the hundreds of ghouls and goblins who will be stopping by!

The St. Regis Recreation will have some candy available to provide residents of Kana:takon who need assistance meeting the high demand of trick-or-treaters. Quantities are limited and recipients must pre-register by calling 575-2700. Please leave a message with your name and contact information and specify that you’re registering for the candy allotment.

If you have any other questions regarding Halloween, please do not hesitate to contact the St. Regis Recreation by calling 575-2700 or find us on Facebook!

Thank you for participating and supporting this festive community event!
