Indian Time - A Voice from the Eastern Door

On Wednesday October 4th, The St. Regis Mohawk School had a special guest pay a visit. The storyteller and writer, Joseph Bruchac made his way to Akwesasne to share some of his stories and legends with the students at St. Regis Mohawk School. Joseph Bruchac has been creating poetry, short stories, novels, anthologies and music that reflect his native heritage for over thirty years. He is the author of more than 120 books for children and adults. The bestselling Keepers of the Earth: Native American Stories and Environmental Activities for Children and others of his "Keepers" series, with its remarkable integration of science and folklore, continue to receive critical acclaim and to be used in classrooms throughout the United States.

The St. Regis Mohawk School PTO reached out to the author and asked if he could come to the school to share some of his stories, and he happily obliged. The day started out with the youngest of the students visiting with Mr. Bruchac in the multi media room first. He told fascinating stories and legends from across the Indian Country, along with some of our own Iroquois legends. The students sat quietly and listened intently while Mr. Bruchac sat in front of them and told his stories with great enthusiasm.

The students of the St. Regis Mohawk School, who were lucky enough to meet Mr. Bruchac, really enjoyed his storytelling. This was not the first time Joseph Bruchac visited St. Regis Mohawk School, and hopefully it will not be the last.
