Nia:wen Kowa to the Akwesasne Community Trust

Last year, the Akwesasne Community Settlement Trust approved the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne’s Department of Housing application for three housing improvement projects.

The $250,000 request was approved for an air quality program, emergency repair program and a septic repair program. These programs were specifically for low-income families. A total of 139 families applied and 91 jobs were completed.

Approximately $88,000 was funded for 14 septic system repairs, and $77,000 was funded for emergency repairs of furnaces, electrical problems, hot water heaters and mold. 38 families received this assistance.

The trust also funded $85,000 for air quality and 39 families received an HRV system for their home.

MCA’s Dept. of Housing would like to extend its sincere gratitude to the Trust for recognizing the significance of these projects and for supporting the Akwesasne community at large.
