HOGANSBURG- Cecilia A. Cook, 96, of 428 St. Regis Road, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at the Massena Memorial Hospital.
Cecilia was born April 19, 1920 at her family home in Akwesasne, daughter of the late Mitchell and Mary Gray Arquette. She attended Massena Central School and on September 24, 1949, she married Harvey N. Cook, with Earl G. Fisher officiating. Harvey predeceased her on April 28, 2009.
She was a member of the Hogansburg United Methodist Church, where she served at Treasurer for many years, and also the American Legion Post #1479.
Cecilia was a homemaker, and worked at Shields Slipper Factory in Bombay, NYS Department of Social Services as a Medical Transport Translator. She also served on the Board of Directors for the Akwesasne Library, and was an award winning basket maker and quilter.
She was an entrepreneur, and quite trendy and fashionable. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed sewing, gardening, landscaping, flowers and cooking. She loved to ice skate when she was younger.
Cecilia is survived by her son, Steven B. Cook of Hogansburg; two granddaughters, Christine J. and Gordon Jacobs, and Amber B. Cook and her companion Gregory David Jr .; five great grandchildren, Talon Jacobs, Rayden Lazore, Gordon Michael Jacobs II, Thomas Jacobs, and Kayden David-Cook.
Besides her husband Harvey, Cecilia was preceded in death by a grandson, Adrian A. Cook on January 20, 1990; a daughter Suzanne Marie Cook on July 7,1966; and a sister, Anna Arquette Smoke on February 21, 1971.
Friends may call at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Thursday, 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM at the Hogansburg Methodist Church. Burial will be at the Hogansburg Methodist Cemetery.
