Mohawk Indian Housing Corporation Receives Grant

 


Rooseveltown, NY – The Mohawk Indian Housing Corporation was notified they received the Nonprofit Infrastructure Capital Investment Program (NICIP) Grant Award in the amount of $248,746. The Grant will target roofing upgrades at three locations, Mohawk River Village located in Rooseveltown, McGee Road Emergency/Transitional Housing and the McGee Road Warehouse in Akwesasne. $100 million was made available from the Dormitory Authority State of New York to Nonprofit Organizations for year 2016 to support the work of the state’s nonprofit partners who provide critical services to million of New Yorkers each year.

In order to support the work of the State’s nonprofit direct human services partners, the NICIP was initially appropriated $50 million in the 2015-2016 Enacted Budget. An additional $50 million was appropriated in the 2016-2017 Enacted Budget for a total of $100 million. A second Request for Application was released and the MIHC application was resubmitted. Competition was tough with 635 applications received, requesting a total of $313 million with only $100 million available. Mary Jo Terrance, Executive Director feels extremely fortunate to receive this award so upgrades can continue with the affordable rental housing units to increase energy efficiency and replace deteriorated roofing. The new roofs will complement the new siding and insulation upgrades at Mohawk River Village.
