ANTHONY L. LAUGHING "Tohroniateh"

BOMBAY – Anthony L. Laughing, Sr. "Tohroniateh", 69, of 2648 State Route 95, unexpectedly passed away Friday morning, October 21, 2016 in the emergency room at Massena Memorial Hospital.

Tony was born June 24, 1947 in Akwesasne, the son of the late Angus J. and Ida Currotte Laughing. He graduated from school in Niagara Falls and later from Trott Vocational School. He married Dinker Tsosie on March 5, 1969 in New Mexico.

Tony was an ironworker with Local 17 in Cleveland, Ohio. He traveled the country as an ironworker and also owned his own general contracting business. He enjoyed watching all sports, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed watching Powwow dancing, fishing, riding on his pontoon, and truly loved gambling.

He is survived by his wife, Dinker; his children, Rachael Laughing of Bombay; Nancy and Lawrence Papineau of Hamilton, Ontario; Anthony L. Jr. and Margaret Laughing of Hamilton, Ontario; Antoinette "Tee" Bigtree; Anthony L. Laughing, Jr. of Akwesasne; Andrea "Bear Bear" Laughing of Akwesasne; Andrew and Maria Laughing of Akwesasne; his grandchildren, Daniel, Derrick, Cheyenne, Anthony, Brianna, Deliah, Jack, Gage, Billy, Makayla, Brett, David, Zoe, Quinton, Devlin, Isabelle, Noelani, and Ogitchiidaa; and his great grandchildren, Atavia, Ariyah, Paydon, Dominic, Preston, and Sebastian.

Tony is also survived by his siblings, James P. Laughing of Niagara Falls; Gerald A. (Debbie) Laughing of Kentucky; Caroline and Randy Bigtree of Akwesasne; Brenda and Bryan Garrow of Akwesasne; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Tony was predeceased by a granddaughter, Vanessa Laughing, and his brother, Frank W. Laughing on September 2, 2016.

Friends called at the Kanienkehaka Kanonsesneh from Tuesday until the time of the service. The funeral ceremony will be held Thursday, October 27, 2016 at 1:00 PM. Cremation will follow.

Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Hogansburg/Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department or the Diabetic Wellness Center.
