The Akwesasne Mohawk School Food Pantry Team has been up and running for over a year and it provides a little extra food for families in need. This year's kick off event was the Thanksgiving Canned Food Drive and it was a huge success! The goal was to collect 320 non- perishable items. This works out to 1 item per student. Thanks to the generous support by the students and staff, a total of 424 items was collected! Surpassing the goal by 104 items!

The Food Pantry Team also partnered with the Community Health Nurses who generously donated 10 turkeys to the cause.

Ten Thanksgiving Food Baskets were then prepared by the Food Pantry Team and distributed last week to 10 local families.

Throughout the year, the Food Pantry team will supply Weekend Backpacks to families who need a little extra help providing food for their children. Backpacks will go home on Fridays and will include items such as pasta, canned fruits and vegetables, cereal, granola bars, etc.

The A.M.S. We Bake Team also helps stamp out hunger by hosting bake sales at school several times a year. Once a month, money from the bake sales is used to purchase Green Food Bags, which are also distributed with the Weekend Backpacks.

After this successful Thanksgiving Basket event, the A.M.S. Food Pantry Team and the We Bake Team are planning something special for Christmas.

These students are to be congratulated for their hard work and for giving back to their community. They truly represent the motto of "Living WE not ME."
