Indian Time - A Voice from the Eastern Door

(January 20, 2016) The Akwesasne Mohawk Police responded to a complaint in the early morning hours of Sunday, January 10, 2016. The caller reported that his step-son was outside his residence on Kawehnoke allowing his two Rottweilers to fight with his dog. The caller stated that the dogs are “trying to kill his dog.”

The caller reported that when he opened the door to his residence his step-son began to yell at him, wanting to fight with him. The caller reported to police that he believes his step-son is intoxicated.

While police where in route to the location a second phone call was made to police by the complainant reporting that his dog had been killed and his step-son is now ramming his parked vehicle in his driveway.

When police arrived on scene the male suspect had already fled to his neighboring residence.

Police set up a perimeter of the suspect’s residence. Police observed the male suspect exit the residence. The suspect began to operate a smaller ATV and proceeded towards a marked police unit. Police intercepted the suspect and caused his ATV to become inoperable. He was then ordered to the ground and did not comply. The suspect then attempted to flee from police on foot.

Police officers pursued the suspect. He was ordered again to the ground by officers and did not comply. The suspect was then tased by police and arrested.

The male suspect has been identified as Jeremy Richard Francis. He has been charged with; Killing or injuring animals other than cattle, Causing unnecessary suffering, Mischief, Possession of a prohibited Firearm with Ammunition, Possession Contrary to Order, Uttering threats, Operation while Disqualified, Possession of Prohibited Weapon, Careless Storage of Firearm and Ammunition, Obstruct police, and Possession of a Substance. He is currently being held in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
