ASHLEY ANN GRAY

 

AKWESASNE – After a brief illness, Ms. Ashley Ann Gray, "Kanakwinetha", 30, of Sugarbush Island, Snye, passed away early Wednesday morning, June 10, 2015 at the University of Vermont Medical Center with her loving family by her side.

Ashley was born May 6, 1985 in Malone, the daughter of Darman Terrance and Lisa Gray. She attended Salmon River Central School, later achieving her GED. She was currently taking online college courses.

She worked for a time at the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino before becoming disabled due to her illness. Ashley enjoyed cooking, baking, doing free hand artistry and spending time and visiting with her friends and family, especially her children. In addition, she enjoyed learning about traditional medicines and healing, dressing up and looking pretty, and was always willing to help someone in need in any way she could. Ashley was a member of the ACS and the Women's Pool League in Akwesasne.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her companion Kurt Terrance, Akwesasne; her two children, Tyren Cook, age 12, and Ellie Ingle, age 5, both at home; maternal grandfather, Abram L. Gray, Hogansburg; paternal grandparents Ann and Edward Terrance, Akwesasne; godparents, Leona and Terry Francis; a goddaughter, Teaghan Grace; sisters, Stacey and Tim Mitchell; and Lindsey White; and Iorakote Tarbell, all of Akwesasne; her brother, Jason Gray and his wife Cheyenne Sunday-Gray, Akwesasne; along with several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ashley was predeceased by her grandmother, Gertrude Gray, on April 10, 1997; and her uncle Abram Gray Jr., on January 4, 2012.

Friends called at the home of her uncle Norman Gray, 530 Cook Road, from Sunday until Tuesday. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday at the St. Regis Catholic Church, with Rev. Anthony Osuji celebrating. Burial followed in Kateri Cemetery.
