ST. LAWRENCE COUNTY GETS MORE SURVEILLANCE

CAMERAS

At least three new sets of surveillance cameras have been installed in St. Lawrence County over the summer according to channel 7 News. The cameras, or "plate readers," are part of a larger surveillance system funded by federal Homeland Security and state grants. They are designed different than others that have been installed in places like Heuvelton, or in the Hermon-DeKalb area and the locations were not publicized. The weather-resistant cameras were reportedly used during the abduction of the two Amish sisters in the town of Oswegatchie.

Meanwhile, U.S. Customs and Border Protection is also using a remote infrared video surveillance system with cameras strategically placed along the U.S. - Canadian border to help detect illegal entry.

GOVERNOR CUOMO ANNOUNCES ONLINE STATE RECRUITMENT RESOURCES CENTER FOR PERSONS AND VETERANS WITH DISABILITIES

Albany, NY (August 25, 2014) Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced the launch of the online State Recruitment Resources Center, which will serve as the central online employment recruitment location for job seekers who are certified eligible for participation in the Governor's Program to Hire Persons and Veterans With Disabilities. The website enables job seekers to upload their resume and transcript, and also provides application information regarding disability certification, so that they can be best connected with employment opportunities at State agencies.

The Recruitment Resources Center is available from the Department of Civil Service's website http://www.cs.ny.gov

The Governor's Program to Hire Persons and Veterans With Disabilities, known as the 55-b and 55-c programs, respectively, allows qualified persons and veterans with disabilities to be appointed to entry-level competitive civil service positions without a written examination. New York State's Civil Service Law designates 1,200 entry level positions for the 55-b program for persons with disabilities. Further, State law provides for 500 entry level positions under the 55-c program specifically for veterans with disabilities.

CORNWALL HOME RENOVATION PRODUCT TO BE FEATURED ON HOLMES MAKES IT RIGHT WITH MIKE HOLMES

Denis St. Denis knew he had a good idea when he developed a product to help contractors and home owners identify load bearing walls. Apparently Canada's most famous contractor agrees.

Mike Holmes will be featuring Mr. St. Denis' load bearing signs in the next episode of Holmes Makes It Right, which airs on Tuesday Sept 2nd at 9:00 pm on the HGTV Channel.

"It is a 2 part episode titled Five Alarm Chili," says Mr. St. Denis. "We are not yet sure if it will be in episode one or two, but it has definitely been used during this particular renovation. In fact, they have already ordered an additional quantity of my signs for future use."

Mr. St. Denis launched his business, Load Bearing Warning Signs, in September 2012. Roy Perkins, owner of Rona Perkins Home Centre was so impressed with the sign that he immediately made them available in his Marleau Avenue store.

Mr. St. Denis was pleased to see his product available to contractors and consumers, but wanted more. He firmly believes that the product is a must for new builds and for renovations. He has worked tirelessly to gain industry recognition for the product, and would like to see it used country wide.

"If every house built 25 years ago had these signs, we wouldn't have the house damage and personal injury we have today when people unknowingly remove part of a load bearing wall," says John Eakes an HGTV TV and radio Host.

UPDATE ON THE KIDNAPPED AMISH GIRLS CASE

(August 25, 2014) HEUVELTON – Members of the Amish community, grateful for the safe return of two girls kidnapped 12 days ago, are planning to show their gratitude by assisting Jeff and Pam Stinson in the rebuilding of their small engine repair shop that was destroyed by fire last month while they were away on vacation in Maine.  Meanwhile, more has been revealed about the night the Stinsons returned the two girls who came knocking at their door.  The Stinsons say they took the girls immediately home, rather than face a large police presence and immediate interrogation.  They were also reportedly pursued by a cream-colored Cadillac that tailgated with high beams and one of the girls stated that was the car and that was "him", meaning one of the kidnappers, before diving to the floor to hide.  The vehicle sped off as the Stinsons reached the girls' home near Heuvelton.  The alleged kidnappers, 39-year-old Stephen Howells and 25-year-old Nicole Vaisey, both of Hermon, were later arrested.  They remain jailed without bail.
