A Voice from the Eastern Door

Day Two

The second day in Washington was more relaxed. We all slept in and really only planned on roaming around to find a place to eat before making our way home. Big brother and I were the first ones up, so we went walking around downtown Washington DC. We marveled at the architecture of the buildings we passed and laughed about how there seemed to be a Starbucks every other block. We found a walking trail that was parallel to the river and we could see all the monuments we had passed by the day before; the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, and some others that we weren’t really positive the names of.

Big Brother’s times alone with me are becoming more and more rare with his little brother being his tail and my work schedule. I feel like he is forever waiting for me to get done my day. He talked about everything under the sun during our two-hour adventure. He surprised me with how much he knew about the city or even just city infrastructure itself. I asked him how does he know all this and he told me, “I read a lot and the History Channel covers everything else.” That’s definitely something he inherited from his dad. History buffs, the two of them. When we returned to the hotel my husband and little brother were ready to hit the road, so it was all big brother and I on day two.
