RUTH D. HILL

 

AKWESASNE – Mrs. Ruth D. Hill, age 90, a longtime resident of Iakhihsohtha Lodge, formerly of Sweet Grass and Liverpool, peacefully passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at IAK HIH SOH THA Lodge.

 Ruth was born June 29, 1922 on Cornwall Island, the daughter of the late Peter Thomas and Sarah Terrance David and attended schools in Syracuse. 

For many years Ruth lived in Liverpool and worked at the Hancock Airport as a clerk in Sky Chef Gift Shop.  During the war efforts, she assembled automatic weapons at a factory in Liverpool.  She was an avid animal lover, an excellent cook, and truly enjoyed the time she was able to spend in her flower and vegetable gardens.  When she was younger, Ruth enjoyed taking her children camping.

Ruth is survived by her children, Susan Deapo of Fayetteville; Michael Hill of Newport News, Virginia; and Daniel and Jean Hill of Fayetteville; 7 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; two sisters, Winnie Cerra and Sarah Rockwell, both of Syracuse; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two daughters, Diana and Peggy Hill; and her siblings, Ann King, Louise Brown, Helen Paro, Walter and Thomas David.

A celebration of her life was held Saturday, March 22nd at the Donaldson Funeral Home, 100 N. Main Street, Massena.  Burial will be in White Chapel Memory Gardens, Dewitt at a later date.

 Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Iakhihsohtha Lodge Activities Fund.
